Winners! Christmas Lights competition 2020

posted in: Events, News | 0

The winners of the Burgess Hill in Bloom Christmas Lights Competition 2020 were Hestia Place and their spokesman Jordan Sutton.  They received a lot of compliments from the judges for their fine lights display along the entire close.  This beautiful display could be seen twinkling from Kingsway, which added to their attraction.
They won the ‘Cathy Barnett Cup’ for all their efforts.

David and Mandy Mason in Orchard Road won their individual award, the  ‘Jo Toase Trophy’, with their wonderful garden lights focused on a giant Snowman, designed and hand made by David.  It had real wow factor!

B. H. I. B. judges toured the whole town and were very impressed with all the extra efforts by Burgess Hill home owners during this COVID Pandemic year.

Deserving special mention were The Holt, Barnside Avenue, Burners Close, The Croft off Unicorn Way.  Large palms decorated Quarry Close, neighbours in Station Road and old favourites Orchard Road Crescent and Condor Way, with Temple Grove and Maple Drive, shone out with their decorated gardens.  Woodpecker Crescent, Sparrow and Packham Way, Farnley, Manor Road, St. Andrews, Golden Hill, Wyvern and Rolfe Way were also worth a mention.
Some residents in St. Peters and Station Road collected donations for charity and some featured in videos on Facebook.

Thanks to all Burgess Hill residents who contributed to making the town light up amid the doom and gloom of this year.

We hope to have a Spring Party (Covid willing), to present the winners with their prizes.

Let’s light up our Burgess Hill Gardens for Christmas 2020 and win yourselves a prize!  Our judges will be driving around the whole town in the weeks before Christmas, to see who has the most beautifully lit gardens.  You don’t have to enter, if you are deemed to be the best, then you will be informed and can win free tickets to the Burgess Hill Annual Party and Prizegiving in the Spring (COVID allowing)!

PLUS, win the Cathy Barnett Cup for best Group Gardens or the Jo Toase Trophy for best Single Garden.

After the terrible year of 2020, residents and neighbours can make Burgess Hill shine out, to bring some Christmas cheer to our neighbourhood.

Virtual Safari and Summer Competition

With the social distancing rules put in place for the Covid-19 pandemic, we are this year holding a Virtual Safari and summer competition. The Virtual Safari will run through to 31st July 2020 in order to capture a little more of what Burgess Hill has to offer over the coming weeks. As usual we will be (hopefully) raising money for St Peter and St James Hospice.

The safari and competition are open to everyone in the Burgess Hill area. you do not need to be a member of Burgess Hill In Bloom.

The gardens will be featured on our Website and Facebook pages and we are asking that participating gardeners to submit photographs (with narrative) or a short video (again with narrative) showing their creations to a potentially much larger audience than we previously enjoyed.

The Summer Garden Competition, again, this year will not be the same as in previous years. We will be having a photographic competition instead, which will will run be open for entries until the 31st July 2020.

Due to the nature of the competition we have decided not to award our usual trophies but winners and runners-up will receive a Certificate.

The categories are –

  1. Flower bed
  2. Vegetable patch
  3. Water feature
  4. Container including Hanging Baskets
  5. Relaxation/seating area.

If you wish to enter any of the above Celebrations of Burgess Hill’s Wonderful Gardens, please fill out the form on the Safari and Competition entry page

If you know of anyone else who may be interested, please let them know!!
